About Mike Cameron
A storyteller, a traveller, and a creator of freedom.

From a Small Kid With Big Dreams…
Growing up, I had two dream careers:
1. Become a Radio DJ
2. Become a Travel Agent
I did work experience in both.
One involved filing bus tickets in a dark office.
The other involved sitting in an on-air studio selecting music, running competitions, and laughing with a team who genuinely loved what they did.
So naturally, I chose radio.
The moment I stepped into that studio, I knew I’d found something special.
Ten Years Behind the Mic to Ten Years of Travel
For more than a decade, I worked as a breakfast radio host across Australia — from Charleville to Parkes, Bundaberg to Wangaratta, Albury/Wodonga to finally (and most meaningfully) Port Macquarie.
Port Macquarie wasn’t just another job.
It was my dream destination.
I used to say:
“If I ever get a radio job here, I’ll retire here.”
Ten years later, that dream came true.
Radio gave me storytelling, community, and connection.
But it also taught me something else… something I didn’t expect.
⭐ From Dream Job to Breaking Point
Even though I was doing what I loved, the reality behind the scenes wasn’t glamorous.
I was paid by the hour, which meant my income was always capped.
And while many think radio is a 9-to-5 job, mine was closer to 5-to-5 — early mornings, long days, constant pressure, and very little rest.
For ten years, I lived that grind.
I loved the work, but I was:
Then came a moment that changed everything.
I heard a quote from the legendary Jim Rohn:
“Profits are better than wages.
Wages will make you a living — profits can make you a fortune.”
It hit me hard.
Because he was right.
As long as I traded hours for dollars, my life would never truly change.
It was time to stop surviving on wages…
and start creating profits.
That mindset shift became the spark that pushed me toward entrepreneurship — the decision that changed the entire direction of my life.
The Unexpected Pivot Into Business
Leaving radio wasn’t easy, but it opened the door to my first major business venture: a seafood shop in Port Macquarie.
It was tough work — long hours, lots of learning, and more stress than I expected.
But within that challenge, something incredible happened:
For the first time ever, I had a business that made a profit.
For the first time ever, I felt financial confidence.
And for the first time ever, I realised:
I can build things.
That realisation changed everything.
And then… aviation entered my life.
How a Walk Along the River Changed Everything
One afternoon, I was walking along the riverfront — just around the corner from Mike’s Seafood — when I noticed a floatplane tied to a small pontoon.
The pilot would take people for joy flights, land back on the river, relax on the bank between bookings, and repeat.
I remember thinking:
“Now THAT is the coolest job in the world.”
So I walked up and asked,
“How do I get to do what you’re doing?”
He replied,
“Well, you need to get your pilot licence.”
“How do I do that?” I asked.
He smiled.
“Well… I can teach you.”
And with that, my obsession with aviation began.
From First Flight to Commercial Pilot
I trained relentlessly.
Studied hard.
Sacrificed time, sleep, and money.
Eventually, I earned my commercial pilot’s licence, bought a Cessna 206, and turned it into a small aviation business.
We flew:
I even spent a full year flying a floatplane — the very thing that sparked the passion in the first place.
It wasn’t always profitable.
But it was exhilarating.
And it taught me what true freedom feels like.

The Business That Changed My Life
In January 2015, I discovered a travel company that aligned with everything I loved:
adventure, freedom, and helping people.
Within a year, life transformed.
I travelled the world with my family:
More importantly — I built a travel-based income that gave me time freedom, family memories, and a lifestyle I once only dreamed about.
It became more than a business.
It became a way of living.
The Pandemic Pivot
Then the world stopped.
Travel shut down.
Borders closed.
Life went quiet.
So I pivoted again.
I returned to traditional business, launching a training company that ultimately led me to buy Australian Business & Hospitality Training.
It was meaningful work.
I saw students transform their futures.
I built teams, systems, structure.
But even as the classrooms filled and the business grew…
My heart never left the runway.
I knew the travel chapter wasn’t over.
It was simply waiting for the world to open back up.
And now — it has.
And with that, Travel Like Mike was born.

Returning to Travel with a New Mission
Post-pandemic, I made a choice:
I would rebuild the travel business that once gave me freedom…
But this time, I’d help others build their own freedom too.
Not by selling wellness products.
Not by selling supplements or skincare disguised as “lifestyle”.
Not by pushing crypto or trading schemes.
But through real travel, backed by a company with:
And that’s what Travel Like Mike is all about.
Why I Do This Today
Because I believe:
And because I want more people to live a life they don’t need a holiday from.
This Is My Story — What Will Yours Be?
If you take just one thing away from my journey, let it be this:
Every great story begins with the decision to start.
And your start might be today.
